Secondary Boundary and Feeder Update

At the May 13, 2019 Board of Education meeting, an update on the secondary feeder/building alignment process was shared. Since our last update in March, meetings were held with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback on two map options created by the boundary committee. From those meetings, we learned this isn’t an easy decision, nor is this black and white, and there are many factors to consider.

We understand the timeline has extended past our original time frame, however, in order to further study the data and carefully consider the variables a decision to take additional time was made by administration.

The work of the Boundary Committee was essential to get to where we are today, and we thank them for their thoughtful work. We took a lot away from the 12 months the committee dedicated to this process and learned valuable lessons we can take into the future.

Our goal is to have a recommendation that continues to provide opportunities for students and will have the least disruption to our students and staff. It is important the feeder systems are sustainable into the foreseeable future. After a decision is made by the Board of Education, administration will continue to study enrollment data and projections to begin discussions regarding middle-level facility needs. As a rapidly growing district, annual facility planning and new construction will continue for the next several years.

Next Steps
The Board will hold a work session May 28 to further analyze student enrollment and demographic data, along with a review of Current Feeder Option 1 and Current Feeder Option 2 (maps). The work session will be held immediately following the regular board meeting.

The first week in June, an online survey will be distributed to our district community. The survey will provide feedback to administration regarding preferences and priorities as it relates to the 6-12 boundaries.

The anticipated time frame remains for a recommendation to be presented to the Board on June 24, and take action to approve the recommendation on July 22. This vote may include whether the feeder changes will be implemented in August of 2020 or 2021.
